BN retains two-thirds majority but Sarawak’s fixed deposit shattered. And as expected, Taib Mahmud rules, again. He quickly taking his oath of office as chief minister for the seventh time at 10.30pm which was broadcast live through national and satellite television.
The biggest upset was SUPP president and Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri George Chan Hong Nam losing the Piasau state seat to DAP’s Ling Sie Kiong.
The six-term incumbent’s defeat could spell the end of the SUPP, which won only six of the 19 seats it contested.
Najib himself had to spend six days canvassing for votes across Malaysia’s largest state and state BN officials estimate that the coalition has spent nearly RM500 million to secure today’s victory.
Money has been the most effective lubricant to the hearts of money-deprived rural folks of Lubok Antu, Sri Aman, Kanowit, Bau, Lundu, etc. So the results are expected, despite good shows at urban area campaigns by the PR.

It is just a matter of hours before polling starts in the 10th Sarawak General Election, 2011. The turn up for the Pakatan Rakyat's final rallies in major towns in Sarawak is very encouraging. If the number of crowds really translated into actual votes, BN could lose it grips in Sarawak.
UPDATES: Sarawak Election 2011 Result
Since 2008, DAP has been harping that TAIB MUST GO. Will DAP and it's Pakatan allies succeed this time around?
Whatever it is, 416 will be the last election for Taib Mahmud. After the final election result is announced in the late evening of Apr 16, 2011 (i.e, 416) it could be a bye bye for Taib OR if BN money politics persists, it will be Taib RULES, again.
The real truth will be revealed by Sunday April 17, 2011.

The Election Commission expects the first result in tomorrow's Sarawak state election to be in by 8pm and the last at the latest by 11pm. For the actual election result, proceed to Sarawak Election 2011 Result.
EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof said this was based on the current situation and provided nothing extraordinary happens.
He said the EC also expected voter turnout to be higher than the 63.2 per cent in 2006 as the election this time had attracted more interest.
"I predict voter turnout to be between 65 and 75 per cent. The parties contesting are very excited this time. Never before in history has there been 213 candidates with 41 of them independents in Sarawak state election," he told a press conference here Friday.
He reminded voters to come out early as rain was forecast for the afternoon.
At stake are 71 seats. Read Sarawak Election 2011 - Final Candidates List.
On allegations of phantom voters, Abdul Aziz said this allegation was raised every time there was an election but till now had yet to be proven.
"If they come across these voters, please catch them and hand them over to us. Actually what they mean is Sarawak voters who are living away from their constituencies returning to vote but are calling them phantom voters because the locals are not familiar with them," he said.
He said postal votes would be collected Friday but counting only done at 5pm Saturday in the presence of election agents of the contesting candidates.
Abdul Aziz also reminded candidates that all campaigning must cease at midnight Friday night and that they and their agents must observe all polling day regulations.
He added that the EC's enforcement officers and police would bring to book anyone who flouted the rules.

PM Najib announced on Sunday, 10 April that the government will consider establishing a health metropolis outside Kuching if the Pending electorate voted for BN Pending candidate Dr Sim Kui Hian.
On Monday, 11 April, the PM went to Sri Aman and announced that the federal government would finally build a new RM200 million hospital in Sri Aman to replace the old hospital built in 1959.
Imagine, it has taken the BN government 52 long years to recognize that Sri Aman needs a new hospital! Caring government macam ni, kah? How come the BN has been so blind to the health needs of Sri Aman residents for so long?
In both these cases, the PM reminded the people to support the BN. Otherwise there is no guarantee that these health projects would be implemented. PM said that he “would seriously consider every request of the elected BN people’s representative but if a request is from the opposition members, it might not be approved.”
Haven't win, already making a threat.
Is this not political blackmail? Does this mean that if people in Sri Aman vote for PKR/DAP, there will be no new hospital built there? Does this mean that if voters in Pending support DAP, there will be no health metropolis?
We voters (BN Supporters and Pakatan Supporters) pay our taxes in exchange for public services for our interests.
So, why PM Najib blackmail and bully us with our own money?
Besides, why promise a health metropolis only to Kuching when all the people of Sarawak - rural and urban - from Lawas to Lundu, need quality public health and medical services?
What happened to our rural health services? How come our rural health services have collapsed? Why is healthcare in so many places in Sarawak so neglected? Why do a majority of Sarawakians not have access to “world class public healthcare and medical” services for the last 30 years?

Lim Kit Siang poked fun today at Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s campaign for Sarawak, saying the prime minister’s 1 Malaysia policy had now degenerated into a “1 T-Shirt, 1 Tupperware circus”.
Lim was referring to reports on the distribution of goodie bags to beef up the attendance at Najib’s 1 Malaysia meet-the-leaders session held last night, the first stop of the prime minister’s six-day campaign in Sarawak.
The DAP adviser also criticised Najib for abandoning his duties as prime minister for six days in order to lead Barisan Nasional’s campaign in the hornbill state.
“Najib has not only abandoned his duties, he has also instructed his whole Cabinet to do the same and to camp in Sarawak for the state general election until polling day on Saturday.
“Clearly, Najib has lost confidence in the ability of the Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud to secure the election results desired by the prime minister,” Lim said here today.
He added that Najib had turned the Sarawak state polls into a national contest, sacrificing his administration’s national policies and his personal popularity and political reputation.
Lim said that since its inception, Najib’s 1 Malaysia concept had suffered two major blows — when Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin declared himself “Malay first and Malaysian second” and last night, during the start of Najib’s campaign here, when participants at his 1 Malaysia meet-the-leaders session were plied with goodies in exchange for their attendance.
Referring to reports on Najib’s function posted on The Malaysian Insider and another online news portal Malaysiakini, Lim said the event was a “shameful spectacle”.
“It is a most shameful spectacle — the degeneration of Najib’s 1 Malaysia concept to unite Malaysians into a 1 T-shirt, 1 Tupperware circus!” he said.
The Malaysian Insider reported today that two separate rallies held last night — Najib’s meet-the-leaders session and a Pakatan Rakyat ceramah — had drawn vastly different crowd numbers.
For Najib’s function, even with the bussing of people from various neighbouring constituencies into Kuching South City Hall’s indoor stadium, only 1,000 people were seen attending it.
Each participant was given a 1 Malaysia T-shirt to wear to signal unity, and flags to wave at BN government leaders as they made their way into the stadium.
Accompanying the BN chairman were the five Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) candidates, and political bigwigs like Gerakan president Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon and Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.
After the prime minister followed the red carpet trail leading into the hall to the sounds of hoots and whistles from the white-shirt supporters, hundreds were seen streaming out, choosing to opt out of listening to his speech.
Instead, they were seen loitering around the stadium complex, chatting and feasting on the burgers and mineral water that were handed out.
Even as Najib’s function kicked off, large numbers were seen lounging in the buses and vans that had ferried them to the venue.
When the prime minister began his speech, large groups of people, garbed in the 1 Malaysia T-shirts, decided to stream out of the hall.
Others appeared to look bored but clapped dutifully at Najib’s punchlines or when those around them did so. The bleachers steadily emptied out as the night wore on.
After the function, it was also reported that a scuffle broke out among participants as they scrambled to grab goodie bags containing a poster of Najib and either a water tumbler or a small food container of the Tupperware brand.
Lim also noted that Koh’s participation and that of MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek in the BN campaign for Sarawak was a “curious spectacle” as it was a rare occurrence that local leaders here would depend on their counterparts in the peninsular to woo support.

A helicopter crashed at the town square here Monday afternoon, just opposite a hotel where Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is due to attend a function.
UPDATES: Pilot Sahimi Ghazali, who was involved in the helicopter crash in Sibu Monday afternoon, died at 8.30pm, according to a Sibu Hospital consultant surgeon involved in administering the surgery. Sibu OCPD Shafie Ismail confirmed the death.
City police chief Shafie Ismail said the pilot was injured and has been admitted to hospital.
There was no one else in the helicopter, he added.
It is learnt that Muhyiddin had arrived in another helicopter at the same place, just a few minutes before the crash.
The helicopter, belonging to Sabah Airways and among three carrying Muhyiddin's entourage, crashed at 1.50pm while taking off to return to Sibu airport.

PKR promises Sarawak religious freedom, more cash if Pakatan win next week’s Sarawak state election.
PKR manifesto/bulletin pledged the following:
1. to form a land reform commission,
2. freedom of religion in any language
3. RM400 a month for senior citizens
4. set up a RM1 billion fund to combat hardcore poverty
5. bring its competence, transparency and accountability administration system (CAT) that has been practised in Penang and Selangor, to Sarawak.
Penang deputy chief minister Datuk Dr Mansor Othman who unveiled the bulletin at a press conference here stated that almost all of Sarawak’s problems - land disputes, unequal development, poverty — were related to Taib’s long reign.
The bulletin details Taib’s alleged wealth and contrasts it to the poverty level in Sarawak where it claims that 70 per cent of long houses do not have piped water, electricity and roads.
PKR and their partners are expected to have a difficult time selling such a smear campaign in rural Sarawak as the longhouse folks are more content if you give them crates of cheap beers and roasted pig or two.
