Bumi of Malaysia

From Heaven to Hell. Rafidah, Shahrizat & Jean Abdullah meet their Creator,GOD on Judgement Day. GOD says 'I understand all of you are from Malaysia, which to the Bumis, is also known as 'heaven-on-earth'. Here too you all shall be treated according to status. You shall meet the who's who of the Malaysian cream of the crop. You can see two giant gates over there. On one is stated Bumi & the other Non-Bumi. Just go to the respective gates & mention your name. BUT remember, should your claim turns out to be false, you shall be condemned to the tortures of hell for all eternity and lose any chance of redemption whatsoever.'

Jean goes over first. She stands outside the Bumi gate and mentions her name. The digital display flashes 'DLL' (dan lain lain = Portuguese Tart) and a ear- piercing alarm rings out. The gate opens to reveal a chamber of raging fire of intense heat. 'Welcome to hell' booms a burly turbaned Sikh as he pulls her in. His name tag reads as Irwan Shah Abdullah@DJ Dave@Sukhdave Singh.

Rafidah & Shahrizat are caught by surprise but smile at each other knowingly. Next goes Shahrizat. She too stands outside the Bumi gate & mentions her name. The digital display screen flashes 'MAMAK' and another ear-piercing alarm triggers. The gate opens to reveal an icy cold chamber way below freezing point. This gate is specially named "The Cowgate" 'Welcome home, I'm Mamoothy', says a sarcastic voice who's name tag reads as Mahathir s/o Mohd Kutty.

Rafidah who is very sure of qualifying, walks over haughtily to the gate which she feels is her birth-right. Just as she mentions her name, the digital display flashes 'INDIAN' .There is a thunderous flash and the gate opens to reveal a pot-bellied figure with a trident in hand & nothing else on except a wig. A familiar voice rings out 'Selamat datang Paduka, Kemaluan saya amat besar, tetapi walaubagaimana pun .......'.He can't go on as he is salivating and panting heavily. She is too shocked for words and turns around in time to hear GOD say just before the gate closes forever 'Your particulars in our record shows your middle name to be AP instead of binti .....' (Rafidah 'AP'Aziz)

I thought the above may only happen in Malaysia. The Washington, D.C. Office of Human Rights confirmed that it is investigating allegations that Catholic University violated the human rights of Muslim students by not allowing them to form a Muslim student group and by not providing them rooms without Christian symbols for their daily prayers. I'll said, WTF.

If these Muslims want a prayer room devoid of Christian symbols, then they should attend a Muslim or secular school, not a catholic school.

One Night in Bangkok

Several bloggers have uploaded a trailer video clip showing a man resembling Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in a bedroom. The bloggers gave different titles to the 2.25-minute video clip.

One dubbed it as One Night in Bangkok; while another called it Round Two.

The video was purportedly recorded in a hotel room in Bangkok on Jan 13 this year.

The blogs where the trailer had been uploaded include www.papagomo.com; stopthelies.my as well as www.parpukari.blogspot.com.

The bloggers queried the Opposition Leader's whereabouts on Jan 12 and 13.

They have also included details of KLIA-Bangkok MAS flights MH 782 that left KLIA at 3.15pm on Jan 12; and MH 785 that left Bangkok at 11.05am the following day.

The matter had been circulating in the blogosphere over the last three weeks.

The trailer was only uploaded yesterday.

Unlike the February video clip showing a man resembling Anwar having sex with a woman believed to be a prostitute from China, the short Bangkok clip was void of saucy scenes.

A blogger claimed that Round Two was coming soon.

Cuci-Cuci 1Malaysia

Cuci-Cuci 1Malaysia
The image says it all.

Malaysian born Hollywood star Michelle Yeoh, who plays pro-democracy champion Aung San Suu Kyi in an upcoming film, has been deported by army-dominated Myanmar and blacklisted, an official said Tuesday.

“She did not have the chance to enter Myanmar again. She was deported straight away on the first flight after arriving at Yangon International Airport,” a Myanmar official, who did not want to be named, told AFP.

“She’s on the blacklist now,” a second official said, declining to say why.

The Malaysian-born former Bond girl met the Nobel Peace Prize winner at her Yangon home in December after shooting scenes with French director Luc Besson in Thailand for the production, which has been kept under close wraps.

The film is expected to be released later this year.

Suu Kyi was freed in November after seven straight years of house arrest, less than a week after an election that critics said was a charade aimed at preserving military rule behind a civilian facade in Myanmar.

Suu Kyi, who turned 66 this month, has won international acclaim for her peaceful resistance in the face of oppression.

In 1990 she led her National League for Democracy party to a landslide election win that was never recognised by Myanmar’s military rulers. She boycotted last year’s vote, saying the rules were unfair.

Yeoh, 48, a former Miss Malaysia, shot to international fame when she co-starred with Pierce Brosnan in the 1997 James Bond film “Tomorrow Never Dies” as a tough but beautiful Chinese spy.

She then starred in Ang Lee’s “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” — a Chinese-language martial arts epic that was an international hit — and “Memoirs of a Geisha” based on the best-selling novel by Arthur Golden.

Taib Mahmud has no Swiss bank account

Taib Mahmud said he has no Swiss bank account. Would you believe him? Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Abdul Taib Mahmud has categorically denied allegations by the Bruno Manser Foundation (BMF) that he has Swiss bank accounts, assets or investment in Switzerland.

He also made the denial in a personal statement in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting after the question and answer session yesterday morning.

“Let me state categorically that I have no secret Swiss bank account, nor assets or investments of any description. None whatsoever (in Switzerland).

“Indeed, I have so stated in unequivocal terms in a letter last month to the president of the Swiss Federation.

“In my letter, I have specifically asked the president to confirm if she has allegedly ordered any investigation into the allegations by the BMF to the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority or furnish me with a copy of the application so that I can exercise my right to seek and obtain an appropriate legal redress.

“I also pledged to render my fullest cooperation to the Swiss Federation to swiftly bring the truth to light so as to nail down all malicious falsehoods.

“Let me reiterate here that the allegations by BMF are utterly false, evidently politically motivated,” Taib told the august House here yesterday.

Taib who is also the Minister of Planning and Resource Management and Minister of Finance said the BMF had a track record of making scurrilous and scandalous allegations against the state government for many years.

These include claims about the cutting down of 90 per cent of the state’s rainforests, although both local and international forestry experts have certified that 70 per cent of the state’s forests are still being preserved and sustainably managed.

“Therefore, BMF’s false allegations about my assets in Switzerland are a continuation of its malicious efforts to smear the state government, the state and the leaders,” he reiterated.

Taib said his attention has recently been drawn to allegations online in a “disreputable website” that claims the Swiss authority may investigate him and the nature and sources of assets belonging to him located in Switzerland.

“The allegations by BMF have since been used by local politicians to advance their own political agenda against me and the state government that I lead, which once again have received a strong mandate from the people during the last state election. As head of the state government and a member of the legislature, in keeping with the parliamentary practice and tradition, I am accountable to this august house.

“Therefore, it is only proper and right for me to make a personal statement to this august house in accordance of Standing Order 22 on the allegations by BMF, a foreign NGO not at all accountable to the people of Sarawak,” he added.

On Tuesday, Taib had said that he would make his statement on the issue as it has been highlighted by recent reports by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) which is also investigating the case. Taib added that the opposition was “barking at the wrong tree”.

“You will have a surprise (from me) tomorrow,” Taib had told the media after attending the opening State Legislative Assembly by head of state Tun Abang Muhammad Salahuddin at DUN complex here Tuesday.

Before the sitting, DUN Speaker, Dato Sri Asfia Awang Nassar had told the media that the opposition would table a motion over the allegation of the MACC against Taib at the ongoing DUN sitting. The opposition had picked up the issue after MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Abu Kassim Mohammad had confirmed that MACC was investigating Taib on the allegation of timber corruption in the state on June 9.

JPN Website Crashed

http://www.jpn.gov.my/ the National Registration Department's (NRD) official website crashed after the Deputy Home Minister Datuk Wira Abu Seman Yusop announced that Malaysian can replace their MyKad through online application. Their website is not prepared in the surge of traffic and I am now more doubtful if their application is secured or not.

Via TheStar: Application to replace IC can be done online

The public can now apply for a replacement of their MyKad online through the National Registration Department's (NRD) official website.

Deputy Home Minister Datuk Wira Abu Seman Yusop said the alternative method would allow people to obtain their identity cards without having to go to the NRD counters which would also help reduce congestion at the NRD headquarters and its branches.

“There are three different kinds of replacement applications, viz for damaged chips or cards, normal replacement and replacement of lost MyKad not more than five times,” he said after opening the 2010 Excellent Service Awards 2010 presentation to 341 NRD staff members here yesterday.

Also present was NRD director-general Datuk Alwi Ibrahim.

Abu Seman said online payment for replacement cards could be made using credit cards, while the e-Banking facility would be made available in the future.

He said applications could be made through NRD's portal from 8am to 11pm on Monday to Friday, 8am to 2pm on Saturday and 8am to 9pm on Sunday.

“Applicants can view the status of their MyKad applications online and select where to collect their cards from.”

He said so far, the department had received 15 applications since the trial run on April 15, including one from a Malaysian in Australia.

The time taken to process the online applications is the same as for counter applications, which is 24 hours for those collecting from the Putrajaya NRD, 10 working days from any other NRD office in the peninsula and 30 working days from any NRD branch in Sabah, Sarawak or Labuan, reported Bernama.

Meanwhile, Malaysians living overseas lauded the development, saying the new online application process for their MyKad was a timely change.

They said the new method of online application at www.jpn.gov.my would save them from having to go through the hassle of travelling to Malaysian embassies in the country where they were staying to apply.

Sam Loke, 29, a postgraduate student in finance from the University of Queensland said the move will benefit students the most.

“Usually if we want to get replacements, we have to make a trip to Canberra where the High Commission is. This means we have to skip classes, which is hard to do,” he said.

“The online application brings much convenience and I'm thankful that the Government has decided to introduce this,” he added.

Canterbury Malaysian Students' Association president Poh Eng Eu, 22, said he had just applied for his MyKad a few weeks ago when he returned to Malaysia.

“If I had known, I would have done it online because it is so much easier,” he said when contacted yesterday.

Malaysian Students' Association in Japan president Awadh Asyraf Supri hoped the new system would work out as he remembered how congested NRD offices were when he went to get his MyKad.

Report from MalaysiaKini suggests that UMNO or BN may play a part in trying to control freedom to education. The government should not interfere in the administration of any university. “How can the universities achieve academic excellence when the government wants to see that the minds of academic staff are shackled and be subject to such vetting,” the former Universiti Malaya lecturer said.

via MalaysiaKini: Syed Husin: SB meddling in varsity staff vetting

Senator Dr Syed Husin Ali has condemned the alleged interference by the police special branch in the screening and vetting process over the appointment of lecturers and emeritus professors.

“This is certainly interference by the authorities not related to the administration of the university,” he said at a press conference in Parliament today.

Syed Husin (left in picture), who also said this in his motion of thanks to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong yesterday, added that the interference by the special branch is much worse and more dangerous than political interference.

“At one point of time students entering into universities were subject to 'suitability certificate' screening based on the special branch report. However, as students objected to such a practise it was discontinued.

“However, now it is known that lecturers are also vetted before they are accepted. Their names would be referred for security clearance (normally by the special branch). After the applicant has been investigated and cleared by the special branch, an offer is made. Normally the applicant's ties and political affiliation would be a reason to reject such an application,” the former academician said.

It is also a fact, alleged Syed Husin, that the special branch would also interfere in the appointment of emeritus professors.

He said such a honorific title is given to those who had served the university, or before the person retires, or based on his contributions and achievements in the academic world.

“It is known that a former professor was not given the title of emeritus professor by a renowned university as clearance was withheld by the special branch. Academic bodies in the university had agreed and recommended that the title be given to the former professor.

“However, when the proposal reached the university board and the special branch interfered, it was then rejected,” he said.

'Ministry should stop interfering'

Syed Husin called on the Higher Education Ministry to also stop interfering in the appointment of lecturers and other senior posts.

“Local universities should be independent and they should not be subject to intimidation by the police. The interference shows the level of independence practised by our universities, as Umno and BN seek to control them,” he said.

“How can the universities achieve academic excellence when the government wants to see that the minds of academic staff are shackled and be subject to such vetting,” the former Universiti Malaya lecturer said.

Syed Husin also said there is a similar practice with regard to the appointment of vice-chancellors, deans, head of departments or registrars.

“The appointment of a vice-chancellor is not done by an independent and neutral search committee to evaluate the candidates' capabilities but it is based on political acceptance. Similarly, the appointment of a dean it is not done by the academic staff of the department.

“This has resulted in the appointment by the minister of a person who is not a well-respected senior academician. In fact, the appointment of deans or heads of department who are not academically qualified as professors is questionable,” he said.

Syed Husin pointed out that as a result, the value of a person's knowledge or academic depth is not given priority and we see the academic reputation, standing and achievement of students at local universities to also be on the decline.

“What we find now is that the ruling political party has the power to influence the appointment of the university's administration. Some lecturers felt it is no use to work hard as they would not receive promotion, and the university's standards would certainly depreciate further.”

Taib Rules, Again

BN retains two-thirds majority but Sarawak’s fixed deposit shattered. And as expected, Taib Mahmud rules, again. He quickly taking his oath of office as chief minister for the seventh time at 10.30pm which was broadcast live through national and satellite television.

The biggest upset was SUPP president and Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri George Chan Hong Nam losing the Piasau state seat to DAP’s Ling Sie Kiong.

The six-term incumbent’s defeat could spell the end of the SUPP, which won only six of the 19 seats it contested.

Najib himself had to spend six days canvassing for votes across Malaysia’s largest state and state BN officials estimate that the coalition has spent nearly RM500 million to secure today’s victory.

Money has been the most effective lubricant to the hearts of money-deprived rural folks of Lubok Antu, Sri Aman, Kanowit, Bau, Lundu, etc. So the results are expected, despite good shows at urban area campaigns by the PR.

416 Sarawak

It is just a matter of hours before polling starts in the 10th Sarawak General Election, 2011. The turn up for the Pakatan Rakyat's final rallies in major towns in Sarawak is very encouraging. If the number of crowds really translated into actual votes, BN could lose it grips in Sarawak.

UPDATES: Sarawak Election 2011 Result

Since 2008, DAP has been harping that TAIB MUST GO. Will DAP and it's Pakatan allies succeed this time around?

Whatever it is, 416 will be the last election for Taib Mahmud. After the final election result is announced in the late evening of Apr 16, 2011 (i.e, 416) it could be a bye bye for Taib OR if BN money politics persists, it will be Taib RULES, again.

The real truth will be revealed by Sunday April 17, 2011.

The Election Commission expects the first result in tomorrow's Sarawak state election to be in by 8pm and the last at the latest by 11pm. For the actual election result, proceed to Sarawak Election 2011 Result.

EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof said this was based on the current situation and provided nothing extraordinary happens.

He said the EC also expected voter turnout to be higher than the 63.2 per cent in 2006 as the election this time had attracted more interest.

"I predict voter turnout to be between 65 and 75 per cent. The parties contesting are very excited this time. Never before in history has there been 213 candidates with 41 of them independents in Sarawak state election," he told a press conference here Friday.

He reminded voters to come out early as rain was forecast for the afternoon.

At stake are 71 seats. Read Sarawak Election 2011 - Final Candidates List.

On allegations of phantom voters, Abdul Aziz said this allegation was raised every time there was an election but till now had yet to be proven.

"If they come across these voters, please catch them and hand them over to us. Actually what they mean is Sarawak voters who are living away from their constituencies returning to vote but are calling them phantom voters because the locals are not familiar with them," he said.

He said postal votes would be collected Friday but counting only done at 5pm Saturday in the presence of election agents of the contesting candidates.

Abdul Aziz also reminded candidates that all campaigning must cease at midnight Friday night and that they and their agents must observe all polling day regulations.

He added that the EC's enforcement officers and police would bring to book anyone who flouted the rules.

Keputusan pilihanraya Sarawak 2011.

Malaysiakini reported that it has remained online despite unrelenting denial-of-service (or DOS) attacks. SarawakReport.org is also under attack. At least their commenting system has been taken out. The culprits behind these DOS attacks are likely to be from the "pro-BN" tech-crews.

Both MalaysiaKini.com and SarawakReport.org are two of the main alternative medias that published plenty of news, snipplets and articles on "anti-BN" or "anti-Taib" during this period of campaigning for the Sarawak State Election. BN controlled medias are keeping their mouth close to a shut. So it is usually a one-sided reporting from the BN controlled medias.

Scathing stories reported in MalaysiaKini.com and SarawakReport.org has proved to be too hot for the BN to handle, leading to the unwarranted cyber-attacks on their sites. Najib is scare. Taib is scare. Heck, the whole BN is scare.

PM political blackmailing during Sarawak election campaignPM Najib announced on Sunday, 10 April that the government will consider establishing a health metropolis outside Kuching if the Pending electorate voted for BN Pending candidate Dr Sim Kui Hian.

On Monday, 11 April, the PM went to Sri Aman and announced that the federal government would finally build a new RM200 million hospital in Sri Aman to replace the old hospital built in 1959.

Imagine, it has taken the BN government 52 long years to recognize that Sri Aman needs a new hospital! Caring government macam ni, kah? How come the BN has been so blind to the health needs of Sri Aman residents for so long?

In both these cases, the PM reminded the people to support the BN. Otherwise there is no guarantee that these health projects would be implemented. PM said that he “would seriously consider every request of the elected BN people’s representative but if a request is from the opposition members, it might not be approved.”

Haven't win, already making a threat.

Is this not political blackmail? Does this mean that if people in Sri Aman vote for PKR/DAP, there will be no new hospital built there? Does this mean that if voters in Pending support DAP, there will be no health metropolis?

We voters (BN Supporters and Pakatan Supporters) pay our taxes in exchange for public services for our interests.

So, why PM Najib blackmail and bully us with our own money?

Besides, why promise a health metropolis only to Kuching when all the people of Sarawak - rural and urban - from Lawas to Lundu, need quality public health and medical services?

What happened to our rural health services? How come our rural health services have collapsed? Why is healthcare in so many places in Sarawak so neglected? Why do a majority of Sarawakians not have access to “world class public healthcare and medical” services for the last 30 years?

Lim Kit Siang poked fun today at Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s campaign for Sarawak, saying the prime minister’s 1 Malaysia policy had now degenerated into a “1 T-Shirt, 1 Tupperware circus”.

Lim was referring to reports on the distribution of goodie bags to beef up the attendance at Najib’s 1 Malaysia meet-the-leaders session held last night, the first stop of the prime minister’s six-day campaign in Sarawak.

The DAP adviser also criticised Najib for abandoning his duties as prime minister for six days in order to lead Barisan Nasional’s campaign in the hornbill state.

“Najib has not only abandoned his duties, he has also instructed his whole Cabinet to do the same and to camp in Sarawak for the state general election until polling day on Saturday.

“Clearly, Najib has lost confidence in the ability of the Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud to secure the election results desired by the prime minister,” Lim said here today.

He added that Najib had turned the Sarawak state polls into a national contest, sacrificing his administration’s national policies and his personal popularity and political reputation.

Lim said that since its inception, Najib’s 1 Malaysia concept had suffered two major blows — when Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin declared himself “Malay first and Malaysian second” and last night, during the start of Najib’s campaign here, when participants at his 1 Malaysia meet-the-leaders session were plied with goodies in exchange for their attendance.

Referring to reports on Najib’s function posted on The Malaysian Insider and another online news portal Malaysiakini, Lim said the event was a “shameful spectacle”.

“It is a most shameful spectacle — the degeneration of Najib’s 1 Malaysia concept to unite Malaysians into a 1 T-shirt, 1 Tupperware circus!” he said.
The Malaysian Insider reported today that two separate rallies held last night — Najib’s meet-the-leaders session and a Pakatan Rakyat ceramah — had drawn vastly different crowd numbers.

For Najib’s function, even with the bussing of people from various neighbouring constituencies into Kuching South City Hall’s indoor stadium, only 1,000 people were seen attending it.

Each participant was given a 1 Malaysia T-shirt to wear to signal unity, and flags to wave at BN government leaders as they made their way into the stadium.

Accompanying the BN chairman were the five Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) candidates, and political bigwigs like Gerakan president Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon and Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.

After the prime minister followed the red carpet trail leading into the hall to the sounds of hoots and whistles from the white-shirt supporters, hundreds were seen streaming out, choosing to opt out of listening to his speech.

Instead, they were seen loitering around the stadium complex, chatting and feasting on the burgers and mineral water that were handed out.

Even as Najib’s function kicked off, large numbers were seen lounging in the buses and vans that had ferried them to the venue.

When the prime minister began his speech, large groups of people, garbed in the 1 Malaysia T-shirts, decided to stream out of the hall.

Others appeared to look bored but clapped dutifully at Najib’s punchlines or when those around them did so. The bleachers steadily emptied out as the night wore on.

After the function, it was also reported that a scuffle broke out among participants as they scrambled to grab goodie bags containing a poster of Najib and either a water tumbler or a small food container of the Tupperware brand.

Lim also noted that Koh’s participation and that of MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek in the BN campaign for Sarawak was a “curious spectacle” as it was a rare occurrence that local leaders here would depend on their counterparts in the peninsular to woo support.

A helicopter crashed at the town square here Monday afternoon, just opposite a hotel where Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is due to attend a function.

UPDATES: Pilot Sahimi Ghazali, who was involved in the helicopter crash in Sibu Monday afternoon, died at 8.30pm, according to a Sibu Hospital consultant surgeon involved in administering the surgery. Sibu OCPD Shafie Ismail confirmed the death.

City police chief Shafie Ismail said the pilot was injured and has been admitted to hospital.

There was no one else in the helicopter, he added.

It is learnt that Muhyiddin had arrived in another helicopter at the same place, just a few minutes before the crash.

The helicopter, belonging to Sabah Airways and among three carrying Muhyiddin's entourage, crashed at 1.50pm while taking off to return to Sibu airport.

Fund is hard to come by especially if you are not part of the government. What more to say if you are from a church. Then what is the church authority thinking when they decided to turn St Joseph's school to private instead of conveniently receiving yearly grants from the Ministry of Education.? Apparently, the MOE is trying to get the church to REMOVE all the crosses (and other Christian artifacts) from the classrooms because there a quite of Muslim students studying in the school.

St Joseph school being established by the church is to provide education and religious guides to Christians. For non-Christians, it would be purely for education purpose. There is a lot of Sarawak prominent leaders receiving their early education from St Joseph including Taib Mahmud, the Chief Ministry of Sarawak as well as other Muslim leaders. It has been proven that those Muslim leaders studying in St Joseph before does not make them any less Muslim.

Asking the church to privatized its school (and cutting off its funding) is a blatant discrimination since education is to be provided free by the government.

Privatised St Joseph’s School here will start its Primary One and Form One classes in January next year.

This was revealed by Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud at the SJS Band’s Thanksgiving cum Old Josephians’ Reunion Dinner at Riverside Hotel here last night.

These classes will be housed at the current St Joseph Tuition Centre which used to be St Bernadette’s private school here.

Taib said he would contribute his one month’s salary towards the setting up of the school.

Taib, who is a former student of St Joseph’s secondary school, said the new private school would need RM10 million to build and another RM3 million as operation startup cost.

In January this year, church officials broke the news at a dinner on the plan to privatise St Joseph’s government-aided primary and secondary schools.

Subsequently, Taib also affirmed this intention to reporters.

Currently, St Joseph’s secondary school has over 1,500 students while St Joseph’s primary, 855 pupils.

Among those present at the dinner were Taib’s wife Puan Sri Ragad Kurdi Taib, Catholic Archbishop John Ha, former state secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Bujang Noor and State Legal Counsel Datuk JC Fong.
