The Heath Ministry is short of funds for the nation's fifth Cardiac Centre to be built at Kota Kinabalu. The project cost RM140Million but the ministry was only allocated with RM80million. A short of RM60 million and badly needed.

Looking back, the government probably have enough fund for this project but some ministers have mis-used the rakyat fund and spend it on buying submarines, sending a tourist to space, sending an army squad to London, among others.

Boros, boros.

RM60m more needed to build cardiac centre

By RUBEN SARIO

KOTA KINABALU: The country’s fifth cardiac centre is to be built here and the Heath Ministry is seeking an additional RM60mil for the urgently required facility.

Health Minister Datuk Liow Tiong Lai said the government had initially approved some RM80mil for the cardiac centre, but the project cost increased to RM140mil after the ministry had expanded the scope of work.

“The cost of the building itself is not that much but the bulk of the expenditure is for the very specialised equipment needed there,” he told reporters after visiting the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) here on Tuesday.

He said the 100-bed cardiac centre would be a unit of the QEH and would be the latest in the country after similar facilities in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor Baru and Kuching.

Liow said the centre was urgently needed as some 100 heart patients from Sabah were being sent to the National Heart Institute (IJN) every year for surgery.

In addition, there were about 174 open heart surgeries carried out in the state by IJN surgeons annually.
